Cependant, en 1590 il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9rig\u00e9 \u00e0 son emplacement actuel. L\u2019architecture de l\u2019\u00e9glise est un paradigme typique de l\u2019architecture v\u00e9nitienne qui domine toute la vieille ville de Corfou.<\/p><p>Son clocher est le point culminant de la ville et c\u2019 est la premi\u00e8re chose remarqu\u00e9 alors que le traversier se rapproche de l\u2019\u00eele. Les habitants ont une foi profonde \u00e0 Saint Spyridon, qui est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le gardien de Corfou.<\/p><p>Selon des l\u00e9gendes locaux, il a sauv\u00e9 l\u2019\u00eele quatre fois de l\u2019invasion ottomane, une des raisons pour que cette \u00e9glise est le plus important monument religieux de Corfou. Spyridon, ou bien Spyros, est un nom tr\u00e8s commun sur l\u2019\u00eele, et les locaux font r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 leur saint protecteur quand ils veulent jurer sur leur parole d\u2019honneur de quelque chose.<\/p><p>A l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de l\u2019\u00e9glise situ\u00e9e juste derri\u00e8re Liston, les restes du saint se reposent. Selon les coutumes locales, ses restes sont transport\u00e9s autour de la ville de Corfou dans une litanie tr\u00e8s paisible quatre fois par an pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer ses miracles (dimanche des Rameaux, le Vendredi saint, le 11 Ao\u00fbt, le premier dimanche de Novembre).<\/p><p>Les litanies sont accompagn\u00e9es par les groupes locaux et ils restent une \u00e9ternelle tradition de
